Case Study
This glamorous bathroom full of character is located within the Surrey Hills. Bel Air Surrey Hills is a spectacular modern Californian style luxury home set in 14 acres of land. Architecturally designed with a playful, Hollywood-glamour interior, the entire house features floor-to-ceiling glass and doors, blending a mix of fabulous and grand elements. There are six stunning bedrooms, each with its own ensuite bathroom. The vibe is laid-back cool with modern mid-century influences all bespoke or sourced from the West Coast of America and Europe. Our designer was approached to design the downstairs cloakroom where as she combined Art Deco glamour introducing pattern and texture for added character.
The brief was to design a vibrant space with an elegant Art Deco feel. With no natural light in the bathroom, aside from a skylight in the powder room area, mood LED lighting and large mirrors were essential to reflect light, create shadows, and add a boutique hotel ambiance.
First, we needed to address the layout to meet the client’s needs and then transform the space into a beautiful, statement cloakroom. Our designer suggested creating a stud wall to create two separate zones, it also allowed for the WC to be hidden behind a stud wall (always verify feasibility with the installer). This allowed us to position a bespoke marble basin that was wall-to-wall for added grandeur with an antique glass mirror above. The stud wall effectively divided the cloakroom into two sections: a powder room perfect for makeup and freshening up, and a WC with the soft pink natural stone basin. This layout provided more privacy and created a journey through the space, leading from the door, through the arch, into a glamorous space that is sure to impress guests.
The large mirror and the arch visually expand the space, while wallpaper with tri-dimensional depth adds a sense of depth. To embrace the Hollywood feel and enhance the room’s identity, we incorporated materials with gold hints and retro styles, such as fluted glass wall lights and soft brass taps with natural wood inlay to echo the reeded wood rounded sides to the room. The ‘Silhouette’ wallpaper from Arte adds movement, flow and a feminine, decadent touch. The daring yet soft contrasts in the wallpaper tied the two areas together, creating a timeless Hollywood look.
To complement the palette of the room, we opted for a bespoke marble vanity in soft pink with Soft Gold brassware creating a soft contrast. The Walnut wood accents around the curved wall of the vanity smoothly transitioned to the contrasting black and white marble floor. The mosaic floor helps to create the iconic Art deco feel while brushed brass skirting added a metallic touch, tying in the gold ceiling and brass details, enhancing the glamour and opulence of the space.
